JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) Commences Operations in Paris

Defending human rights, Fighting for social justice, and empowering communities, the human rights organization JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) has officially launched its activities in Paris.

The momentous announcement of the nine-member executive committee of JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) was unveiled through unanimous consensus during an online general meeting held on June 1, 2023 (Thursday).

“মানবাধিকার সুরক্ষা, সামাজিক ন্যায়বিচারের প্রতিষ্ঠা এবং নিপীড়িত সম্প্রদায়ের ক্ষমতায়ন” প্রতিপাদ্যকে সামনে রেখে প্যারিসে মানবাধিকার প্রতিষ্ঠান জাস্টিসমেকার্স বাংলাদেশ ইন ফ্রান্স (জেএমবিএফ) কার্যক্রম শুরু করেছে।

১লা জুন ২০২৩ (বৃহস্পতিবার) অনলাইনে অনুষ্টিত সাধারণ সভার মাধ্যমে সর্বসম্মতিক্রমে বাংলাদেশী বিশিষ্ট মানবাধিকারকর্মী ও আইনজীবী অ্যাডভোকেট শাহানূর ইসলাম’কে প্রেসিডেন্ট ও অ্যাডভোকেট মোহাম্মদ আলমগীর’কে সাধারন সম্পাদক করে জাস্টিসমেকার্স বাংলাদেশ ইন ফ্রান্স (জেএমবিএফ) এর নয় সদস্য বিশিষ্ট নির্বাহী কমিটি ঘোষণার মাধ্যমে সংগঠনটির শুভ সুচনা করা হয়।

বাংলাদেশের বিশিষ্ট মানবাধিকার ও উন্নয়নকর্মী শরীফ মোস্তফা হেলাল ও তান্নি বিথি সরদার’কে ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্ট এবং সানজিদা খানম সংগঠটির সহসাধারণ সম্পাদক হিসেবে সর্বসম্মতভাবে নির্বাচিত হোন। তাছাড়া,মইনুদ্দীন খান কোষাধ্যক্ষ এবং মোঃ আনিছার রহমান, অ্যাডভোকেট সাখিনা খাতুন ও মোসাঃ জান্নাতুল ফেরদৌস নির্বাহী কমিটির সদস্য হিসেবে নির্বাচিত হোন।

Paris, France, August 10, 2023: A shocking and distressing trend of violence against lawyers in Bangladesh has been unveiled by the recently published comprehensive annual report by JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF). The report, covering the period from January to December 2022, paints a grim picture of the challenges faced by legal professionals in the country and calls for urgent action to address the alarming situation.

The report, published in Paris, France on August 10, 2023, is a groundbreaking endeavor that sheds light on the disconcerting incidents of violence targeting lawyers in Bangladesh. It is a meticulous documentation of incidents that includes physical attacks, assault, beatings, murder, rape, kidnappings, fabrication of cases, arrests, threats, intimidation, attempted murder, and judicial harassment.

[Paris, France: 21st July 2023] JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) strongly condemns the untimely and tragic demise of lawyer Mr. Lutful Kabir Nowroz, whose lifeless body was found in a pond in Khulna's Batiaghata upazila on Sunday evening, 16th July 2023.

Lutful Kabir Nowroz, 58, served as the Public Prosecutor (PP) of the Anti-Corruption Special Tribunal in Khulna, southern Bangladesh, dedicating his life to upholding justice and fighting against corruption. His sudden disappearance and subsequent discovery in the pond have shocked the entire legal community and brought immense sorrow to all those who knew and worked with him.

UN Special Rapporteur Expresses Concern over the situation of Bangladeshi Human Rights Lawyer Shahanur Islam

United Nations Special Rapporteur for human rights defenders took to social media to voice his concerns about the distressing situation faced by human rights lawyer and defender Shahanur Islam in Bangladesh. On 13th July 2023, the Special Rapporteur's status, posted on both Facebook and Twitter, highlighted the online harassment faced by Islam as a form of retaliation for his dedicated work in advocating for the rights of LGBTQI+ individuals in the country. Moreover, it was revealed that the local police had made attempts to gather information about Islam and his family.

European Lawyers Demand Protection for Bangladeshi Lawyer Shahanur Islam from Continuous Threats and Harassment

The Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE), representing the bars and law societies of 46 countries and over 1 million European lawyers, has taken a firm stance against the continuous threats and harassment faced by lawyer Shahanur Islam and his family in Bangladesh. On July 7, 2023, the CCBE sent a letter to the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, addressing the grave concerns surrounding the safety of Shahanur Islam.

A Facebook user named "Mon Dey" has called for the ban of human rights activist and lawyer Shahanur Islam in Bangladesh, alleging that he is implementing a Western agenda to establish and legitimize the homosexual agenda in the country.

At the same time, he urges the necessary steps to ban Justice Makers Bangladesh, an organization founded by Shahanur Islam.

Critical Analysis of Violence Against LGBT People in Bangladesh 2022

Shahanur Islam, a prominent human rights lawyer from Bangladesh, delivered a compelling presentation at the "Safer-to-Be-Me" International Symposium held at Sunderland University in England.
