BIHR Joint Statement: No Climate Justice without Debt Justice

The climate emergency is fuelling the accumulation of debt in countries in the global south.

Countries suffering from the worst impacts of climate change have contributed very little to it, yet they are facing more expensive borrowing costs because of their climate vulnerabilities. They are left with almost no option but to borrow to finance climate mitigation and adaptation, and fund reconstruction and recovery after an extreme climate event. Countries that have accumulated unsustainable debt levels have reduced fiscal space and opportunities to invest in adaptation and mitigation, as well as to recover from loss and damage from increasingly severe climate extreme events, slow onset events and environmental hazards. At the same time, climate finance - which should respond to the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, as formulated in the 1992 Rio Principles to reflect historical climate debt - is being delivered mainly through loans and debt-creating modalities, placing the financial burden onto the shoulders of the global south.

রাজধানীর হাতিরঝিলে ঘুরতে গিয়ে হিজরাদের একটি চক্রের মারধরের শিকার হয়েছেন এক দম্পতি। এতে ভুক্তভোগী যুবকের কান ও মাথায় গুরুতর জখম হয়েছে। তার পরনের কাপড়ও ছিঁড়ে ফেলে তারা। শুক্রবার, ২২ অক্টোবর সন্ধ্যার দিকে হাতিরঝিলের বেগুনবাড়ি মোড়ে এ ঘটনা ঘটে।

রাজধানীতে সমকামী ক্লাবের সভাপতি পীর আটক!

রাজধানী থেকে এক ভণ্ড পীরকে আটক করেছে গোয়েন্দা পুলিশ। জানা গেছে, ওই ভণ্ড পীরের নাম আবদুল মোতালেব। ধর্মের দোহাই দিয়ে হাজারও মুরিদ বানিয়ে কোটি কোটি টাকার মালিক বনে যাওয়া ওই পীর নিজেই সমকামী ক্লাবের সভাপতি। সরকারি চাকরি কিংবা স্থানীয় নির্বাচনে সরকারি দলের মনোনয়ন পাইয়ে দেয়া নাকি তার বাঁ হাতের কাজ। দেশের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তে তাকে ঘিরে বসে আসর, হয় বিভিন্ন ধরনের জিকির।

শরীয়তপুরে চাঁদা দিতে বাঁধা দেয়ায় ব্যবসায়ীর ওপর হিজরা বাহিনীর হামলা

শরীয়তপুরে চাঁদা না পেয়ে এক ব্যবসায়ীর ওপর হিজরা বাহিনী হামলা করেছে হয়েছে বলে অভিযোগ পাওয়া গেছে। হামলার ছবি সামাজিক যোগাযোগ মাধ্যমে ভাইরাল হলে সমালোচনার ঝড় উঠছে।

থামছেই না হিজড়াদের দাপট, টাকা না দিলেই গালিগালাজ-মারধর

দিন দিন বাড়ছে হিজড়াদের দাপট। সড়ক ছেড়ে নানা অজুহাতে বাসাবাড়িতেও দাপট দেখাচ্ছেন তারা। অশ্রাব্য গালাগাল, নগ্ননৃত্য প্রদর্শন, ভাঙচুর চালানো, মারধরসহ নানা অপকর্মে মেতে উঠেছেন হিজড়ারা। নানা রকম ভয়ভীতি, সম্মানহানির হুমকি, বকাবাজি করে তুলছেন চাঁদা। টাকা দিতে না চাইলে সংঘবদ্ধ হয়ে মারধর করছেন। 

সমকামিতা করতে চাওয়ায় বন্ধুকে হত্যা

সমকামিতা করতে চাওয়ায় এক বন্ধু অপর বন্ধুকে হত্যা করে লাশ পুড়িয়ে দিয়েছে। গত ৩০ জুলাই রাজধানীর কামরাঙ্গীরচরের একটি বাড়িতে চাঞ্চল্যকর এ ঘটনাটি ঘটে।

অভিযুক্ত ব্যক্তি আদালতে দেওয়া স্বীকারোক্তিতে হত্যাকাণ্ডের এমন বর্ণনা দিয়েছেন। যদিও ওই দুই বন্ধুর অসম বয়স হলেও তাদের মাঝে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে সমকামিতার সম্পর্ক ছিল।

BIHR and JusticeMakers Bangladesh Joint statement: BUILDING BACK BETTER FOR STATELESS PEOPLE

In June 2020, JusticeMakers Bangladesh along with 84 other civil society actors issued a joint statement ‘In Solidarity with the Stateless’ calling on: States, UN agencies, human rights, humanitarian and public health actors, donors and the media to address the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on stateless people and those at risk of statelessness. One year on, the concerns expressed in that statement remain largely unaddressed, with the situation of stateless people further deteriorating, partly due to failures to acknowledge and respond to their specific contexts and uphold their rights. Moreover, new concerns and challenges, particularly around vaccine inequity, have also emerged. The 106 civil society actors, co-signatories to this statement, are deeply concerned that many States and other key stakeholders have been unable or unwilling to learn from past mistakes and have failed to adequately prioritise and resource the practical steps that can and must be taken to protect stateless people and the right to nationality.

সমকামিতা আড়াল করতেই খুন হয় মাদরাসা ছাত্র রাব্বি

৪ মাস পর নওগাঁর মহাদেবপুরের কুঞ্জবন দারুল উলুম কওমি নুরানী মাদরাসার ছাত্র মো. রাব্বিকে (৯) হত্যার রহস্য উদঘাটন করেছে পুলিশ। পুলিশ বলছে, সহপাঠীদের সমকামিতার তথ্য আড়াল করতেই তাকে হত্যা করা হয়েছে। রাব্বিকে হত্যার অভিযোগে ঘটনার ৪ মাস পর তার সহপাঠী ও একই মাদরাসার হেফজ বিভাগের ছাত্র মো. রনিকে (১৫) গ্রেফতার করেছে পুলিশ।

মামুনুলের সমকামিতার তদন্তে পুলিশ

বিতর্কিত ধর্মীয় নেতা মাওলানা মামুনুল হকের বিরুদ্ধে সমকামিতার অভিযোগের তদন্তে নেমেছে পুলিশ। গোয়েন্দা পুলিশ সূত্র জানায়, দীর্ঘদিন ধরে তারা মামুনুল হকের বিষয়ে ছায়া তদন্ত করে আসছিলেন। মাদ্রাসায় পড়া ও শিক্ষকতা করার সময় মামুনুলের বিরুদ্ধে কয়েকটি সমকামিতার অভিযোগও পাওয়া গেছে। সেগুলো বর্তমানে তদন্ত করা হচ্ছে। এছাড়া মাদ্রাসা পরিচালনা নিয়ে আর্থিক দুর্নীতি ও অনিয়মের বিষয়েও মামুনুলের বিরুদ্ধে তদন্ত চলছে।

সখিপুরে ছেলের সাথে ছেলের বিয়ে, বেধড়ক পিটিয়েছে বিক্ষুব্ধ জনতা

টাঙ্গাইলের সখিপুর উপজেলার দাড়িয়াপুর ফালু চাঁন শাহ (ফাইলা পাগলা) এর মাজার পাড়ে বুধবার দুপুরে ছেলে যুবায়ের (১৯) এর সাথে অপর ছেলে আলতাব (৩০) এর বিবাহ সম্পন্ন হবার ঘটনা ফাঁস হয়ে যাওয়ায় এলাকাবাসী তাদেরকে বেধড়ক পিটিয়ে থানা পুলিশের নিকট তুলে দেয়। পরে থানা পুলিশ তাদের অজ্ঞাত কারনে ছেড়ে দিয়েছে।

দৌলতদিয়ায় হিজড়াদের বাড়িতে হামলা ও মারধর

রাজবাড়ী দৌলতদিয়ায় বসবাসরত হিজড়া সম্প্রদায়ের বাসিন্দাদের ওপর হামলা, বাড়িঘর ভাঙচুর ও নির্যাতনের ঘটনায় শনিবার সকালে গোয়ালন্দ ঘাট থানায় একটি মামলা দায়ের করা হয়েছে। এই মামলার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে থানা পুলিশের সদস্যরা হাফিজুল নামে একজনকে গ্রেফতার করেছে। হাফিজুল উত্তর দৌলতদিয়ার ফেলু মোল্লার পাড়া গ্রামের কালামের ছেলে। এ মামলায় আরো ৯ জনের নাম উল্লেখ এবং সাত-আটজনকে অজ্ঞাত আসামি করা হয়েছে।

Hijra found dead on Comilla rail track

Police in Comilla have recovered a body of a transgender person from a pair of rail tracks on the Dhaka-Chittagong route.The deceased was identified as Munni, 35, police confirmed on Wednesday morning.

“After killing her, the assailants left the body on the rail tracks at Murapara area of Comilla Sadar upazila,” said Kotwali police station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwarul Haque.

সাভারে হিজড়া হকার সংঘর্ষ আহত ১০

শনিবার সকাল সাড়ে ১১টার সমায় সাভার বাসষ্ট্যান্ডে হিজড়া ও হকার্সদের মধ্যে ধাওয়া পাল্টা ধাওয়ার ঘটনা ঘটেছে। এক পর্যায়ে উভয় পক্ষের সংঘর্ষ বাধে এতে উভয় পক্ষের অন্তত ১০ জন আহত হয়েছেন বলে জানাগেছে। সংঘর্ষের পর পরই পুলিশ ঘটনাস্থলে পৌছে পরিস্থিতি নিয়ন্ত্রনে আনে। আহত একজন হিজরাকে হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়েছে।
