My name is Shahanur Islam, and I am a human rights defender, lawyer, and blogger originally from Bangladesh. As the Founder President of JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) and the Founder Secretary-General of JusticeMakers Bangladesh (JMBD), I am delighted to share our mission and vision with you.
At JMBF, we stand by our slogan: "Defending Human Rights, Fighting for Social Justice, and Empowering Communities." Our organization is committed to combating all forms of discrimination and impunity against minority communities and victims of human rights violations. Our mission is to provide much-needed assistance to those who have limited or no access to human rights resources. We also extend our support to human rights defenders, lawyers, journalists, bloggers, and artists who are at risk. Additionally, we facilitate access to essential support services for Bangladeshi-origin asylum seekers, refugees, and immigrants in France.
Our work is divided into two main areas: activities in Bangladesh and activities in France. In Bangladesh, we focus on providing legal aid, counseling, and advice, especially to economically disadvantaged individuals. We engage in public interest litigation to ensure justice and conduct fact-finding investigations to verify allegations of human rights violations. Our efforts also include issuing urgent appeals and lobbying for the ratification of international covenants and the decriminalization of homosexuality.
In France, we concentrate on supporting Bangladeshi-origin asylum seekers, refugees, and immigrants by facilitating their access to legal and social services. We organize training sessions, seminars, and workshops on human rights, good governance, peace, democracy, and legal empowerment. Our research and documentation efforts aim to publish reports on human rights situations, encouraging government action and shaping public opinion.
We believe in the power of collaboration and maintain close relationships with other human rights organizations, local and international professionals, and the UN Human Rights Body. To ensure timely intervention, we operate a hotline for receiving information on human rights violations.
