Mrs. Rome, known for her advocacy in international human rights, led the conversation, providing insight into France's efforts to preserve the memory of historical injustices and promote human dignity.
Mr. Islam raised concerns about ongoing human rights violations in Bangladesh, including torture, extrajudicial killings, and political repression, such as arbitrary arrests and fabricated charges. He also addressed violence and harassment against journalists and lawyers, including wrongful arrests and false accusations. Additionally, he highlighted violence against the LGBT community and religious minorities, such as Hindus and Ahmadis, who face attacks, killings, vandalism, and the looting of homes, businesses, and places of worship.
Mr. Islam handed over the JMBF State of LGBT Rights in Bangladesh 2022 to the Human Rights Ambassador and the Secretary-General of the Interministerial Delegation for Refugee Reception.
