JMBF Founder Advocate Shahanur Islam Attends IGLYO’s 40th Anniversary Members' General Assembly 2024 in Ljubljana, Slovenia

Advocate Shahanur Islam, Founder of JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF), recently joined LGBTQI+ youth advocates from across Europe to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the International LGBTQI+ Youth and Student Organisation (IGLYO). This milestone Members' General Assembly, held from October 24 to 27, 2024, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, commemorated four decades of IGLYO’s dedication to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and empowering environment for LGBTQI+ youth across Europe and beyond.

The General Assembly brought together representatives from IGLYO's member organizations and alumni to exchange insights, formulate new strategies, and reaffirm the importance of human rights and equality for LGBTQI+ youth. Founded in 1984, IGLYO is Europe’s largest LGBTQI youth network, playing a key role in amplifying young voices and championing issues like anti-discrimination, inclusive education, and mental health support for LGBTQI+ communities.

Advocate Shahanur Islam’s attendance at the event underscores JMBF’s dedication to empowering youth and advocating for the rights of diverse communities. Throughout the event, Islam participated in various panels, workshops, and networking sessions aimed at building stronger alliances and tackling pressing challenges facing LGBTQI+ youth in Europe today.

"I am honored to be part of IGLYO’s 40th Anniversary General Assembly," said Advocate Shahanur Islam, Founder and President of JMBF. "It is inspiring to witness the achievements of this resilient network over the years. This gathering reaffirms our shared commitment to equality, dignity, and safety for all LGBTQI+ youth. Cross-border collaboration is essential as we work toward a more inclusive future for all."

During the event, participants celebrated IGLYO’s legacy and reflected on its pivotal role in shaping inclusive policies that embrace diversity and promote respect within society. The assembly highlighted new initiatives to foster safe and supportive educational environments, as well as programs to address mental health and well-being for LGBTQI+ youth in schools and communities.

IGLYO’s 40th Anniversary General Assembly represents both a celebration of past accomplishments and a reminder of the ongoing work required to build a truly inclusive society. With the continued support of advocates and foundations like JMBF, IGLYO remains committed to making impactful changes that ensure LGBTQI+ youth voices are heard, valued, and respected throughout Europe and the world.
