Paris, France; September 07, 2024: JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) expresses its deep concern and strong protest over the tragic killing of 14-year-old Swarna Das, a schoolgirl who was fatally shot by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on the night of September 1, 2024, at the Lalarchak border area of Sharifpur Union, Kulaura, Moulvibazar.JMBF believes that the killing of young Swarna by indiscriminate gunfire is a gross violation of human rights and international norms. The excessive use of force by the BSF is both unjustifiable and inexcusable, resulting in the loss of an innocent life and injuries to others.
JMBF asserts that Swarna, a bright student, was attempting to cross the border with her mother to visit her brother in Tripura, India, when she was tragically killed. Her death serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers faced by those living near the border and underscores the urgent need for accountability and reform in border security practices.
Additionally, JMBF notes that Swarna’s tragic death was accompanied by injuries to a couple from Chittagong who were traveling with them. This unnecessary violence demands immediate attention and justice for the victims.
According to reports from various Bangladeshi media, JMBF learned that Swarna Das, daughter of Parendra Das, a 14-year-old eighth-grade student from Kalnigiri village in West Juri Union of Juri Upazila, Moulvibazar, was killed by gunfire from the BSF at the Lalarchak border. After the shooting, the BSF took the body of the deceased.
Parendra Das and his wife, Sanjita Rani Das, shared that they have four children. Their son has been residing in Tripura, India, for an extended period. Sanjita, accompanied by her youngest daughter Swarna, attempted to cross the border into India through an illegal route with the help of local brokers to visit her son.
A couple from Chittagong was also with them. Upon reaching the barbed-wire fence near the Indian border at around 9 p.m., the BSF opened fire indiscriminately, killing Swarna on the spot. The accompanying couple was also injured. After the shooting stopped, Sanjita and the others took shelter in a house in Lalarchak village. The injured couple was later sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment.
The BSF handed over Swarna Das’s body to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Tuesday night, September 3, 45 hours after the incident.
Robert Simon, a prominent French human rights activist and Chief Adviser of JMBF, stated: “This incident is a shocking violation of human rights. No border security measure should involve the killing of innocent civilians, especially children. We urge the international community to join us in condemning these inhumane actions and pressing for justice for the victims and their families.”
Advocate Shahanur Islam, Founder President of JMBF, added: “Incidents of border killings are both undesirable and unjustified, as they violate not only the provisions of the Joint Indo-Bangladesh Guidelines for Border Authorities, 1975, but also fundamental human rights. The Indian authorities must ensure that their border forces respect human dignity and operate within the bounds of the law.”
JMBF calls upon the Government of India to immediately halt these unlawful and violent actions against innocent civilians. The repeated killings and injuries of Bangladeshi citizens at the border must cease.
JMBF urges the Government of India to conduct thorough investigations into all border incidents involving killings, injuries, and abductions. Those responsible must be identified and brought to justice.
JMBF stands in solidarity with the family of Swarna Das and all others affected by this senseless violence. JMBF will continue its efforts to seek justice and hold accountable those responsible for these human rights violations along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

প্যারিস, ফ্রান্স; সেপ্টেম্বর ০৭, ২০২৪ঃ গত ১ সেপ্টেম্বর, ২০২৪ তারিখে মৌলভীবাজারের কুলাউরা উপজেলার শারিফপুর ইউনিয়নের লালারচক সীমান্ত এলাকায় ভারতীয় সীমান্ত নিরাপত্তা বাহিনী (বিএসএফ) কর্তৃক ১৪ বছর বয়সী স্কুলছাত্রী স্বর্ণা দাসকে গুলি করে নির্মমভাবে হত্যার ঘটনায় প্যারিস ভিত্তিক মানবাধিকার সংগঠন জাস্টিসমেকার্স বাংলাদেশ ইন ফ্রান্স (জেএমবিএফ) গভীর উদ্বেগ ও তীব্র প্রতিবাদ জানাচ্ছে।
জেএমবিএফ বিশ্বাস করে যে স্বর্ণা দাসকে নির্বিচারে গুলি করে হত্যার ঘটনাটি মানবাধিকার এবং আন্তর্জাতিক আইনের গুরুতর লঙ্ঘন। নিরস্ত্র বাংলাদেশীর উপর বিএসএফ এর অতিরিক্ত প্রাণনাশী অস্ত্রের অগ্রহণযোগ্য এবং অজুহাতহীন ব্যবহারের ফলে একটি নিরপরাধ কিশোরীর জীবননাশ এবং অন্যান্যদের আহত হওয়ার ঘটনা ঘটেছে বলে জেএমবিএফ মনে করে।
একজন মেধাবী ছাত্রী তার মায়ের সাথে সীমান্ত পার হয়ে ভারতের ত্রিপুরায় তার ভাইকে দেখতে যাওয়ার সময় তাকে দুঃখজনকভাবে হত্যা করার ঘটনায় জেএমবিএফ নিন্দা জানাচ্ছে। পাশাপাশি, স্বর্ণার মৃত্যু সীমান্ত সংলগ্ন এলাকায় বসবাসকারী ব্যক্তিরা প্রতিনিয়ত যেসব বিপদের সম্মুখীন হন তার হৃদয়বিদারক নজীর বিধায় সীমান্ত নিরাপত্তা ব্যবস্থার জরুরি সংস্কার প্রয়োজন বলে জেএমবিএফ মনে করে।
জেএমবিএফ-এর প্রধান উপদেষ্টা এবং ফরাসি মানবাধিকার কর্মী রবার্ট সিমন বলেন: "মৌলভীবাজারে বিএসএফ কর্তৃক শিক্ষার্থী স্বর্ণা হত্যার ঘটনাটি মানবাধিকারের চরম লঙ্ঘন এবং কোনও সীমান্ত নিরাপত্তা ব্যবস্থা নিরপরাধ নাগরিকদের, বিশেষ করে শিশুদের হত্যা করতে পারে না। আমরা আন্তর্জাতিক সম্প্রদায়কে এই অমানবিক কার্যকলাপগুলি নিন্দা করার এবং ভুক্তভোগী ও তাদের পরিবারগুলির জন্য ন্যায়বিচারের দাবি করার জন্য আহ্বান জানাচ্ছি।"
জেএমবিএফ-এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা সভাপতি অ্যাডভোকেট শাহানুর ইসলাম বলেন: "বিএসএফ কর্তৃক সীমান্ত হত্যার ঘটনা অগ্রহণযোগ্য এবং অযৌক্তিক। গুলি করে বাংলাদেশী নাগরিক হত্যা শুধুমাত্র ভারত-বাংলাদেশ সীমান্ত কর্তৃপক্ষের যৌথ নির্দেশাবলীর লঙ্ঘন নয়, মৌলিক মানবাধিকারেরও চরম লঙ্ঘন। ভারতীয় সীমান্ত বাহিনী মানব মর্যাদা রক্ষা করে আইনগত সীমার মধ্যে যেন কাজ করে তা ভারতীয় কর্তৃপক্ষকে নিশ্চিত করতে হবে।"
জেএমবিএফ ভারত সরকারকে অবিলম্বে নিরপরাধ নাগরিকদের বিরুদ্ধে এই অবৈধ এবং সহিংস কার্যক্রম বন্ধ করার আহ্বান জানাচ্ছে। সীমান্তে বাংলাদেশি নাগরিকদের বারবার হত্যাকাণ্ড ও আহত হওয়ার ঘটনা বন্ধ হওয়া উচিত বলে জেএমবিএফ বিশ্বাস করে।
জেএমবিএফ ভারত সরকারকে সীমান্ত সকল হত্যাকাণ্ড, আহত হওয়া এবং অপহরণের ঘটনার ব্যাপক তদন্তের মাধ্যমে দায়ীদের চিহ্নিত করে ন্যায়বিচারের মুখোমুখি করার আহ্বান জানাচ্ছে।
জেএমবিএফ স্বর্ণা দাসের পরিবার এবং এই ঘটনায় অন্যান্য সকল ভুক্তভোগীর প্রতি পূর্ণ সহানুভূতি জানাচ্ছে। জেএমবিএফ ভারত-বাংলাদেশ সীমান্তে সকল প্রকার মানবাধিকার লঙ্ঘনের দায়ীদের বিরুদ্ধে ন্যায়বিচার নিশ্চিত করার জন্য প্রচেষ্টা অব্যাহত রাখবে।
