Paris,France; April 05, 2024: JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) strongly protests and expresses deep concern over the deaths of two Bangladeshi citizens and the injuries to five others in Chapainababganj, Lalmonirhat, and Jessore along the Indo-Bangla border in the last week.
The France base human rights organisation demands an immediate halt to all firing at the Indo-Bangla border and calls for an independent joint international investigation to bring the alleged BSF perpetrators to justice.
According to reports published in different news media in Bangladesh, JMBF learned that on April 02, 2024, at the Gomstapur border in Chapainawabganj, a Bangladeshi youth named Saiful Islam was fatally shot by the Indian Border Guard Force BSF. The incident occurred at the Rokanpur border, where Saiful had gone with others to fetch cows from India. While his companions returned safely, Saiful did not. His death was confirmed when a photo of his body was sent across the border. Despite attempts to contact BGB officials, there was no response. Local sources reported hearing gunshots, indicating BSF involvement. Saiful's death highlights the dangers faced by individuals involved in cross-border activities.
On March 29, 2024, late at night, Muruli Chandra Roy, a Bangladeshi national, was fatally shot by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Burirhat border in Chandrapur, Kaliganj, Lalmonirhat. Two others, Mizanur Rahman and Liton Mia, sustained injuries in the incident, which took place inside India, approximately 100 yards from pillar No. 913/4. The BSF targeted Bangladeshi cattle smugglers who were assisted by Indian traders while returning with cows. Unfortunately, Muruli Chandra Roy succumbed to his injuries on the way to Rangpur for medical treatment, while the injured are currently receiving treatment covertly.
On April 1, 2024, two Bangladeshis were injured by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) rubber bullets at the Daulatpur border of Benapole Bandar police station. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) later rescued and admitted them to Sharsha Upazila Health Complex. The injured individuals are Shafiqul Islam (32) and Piyas Babu (35), both from the village of Daulatpur in the Putkhali Union of Benapole Bandar Police Station. Shafiqul Islam is also known as Dalim.
On March 27, 2024, a Bangladeshi youth named Oliul Islam was injured by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) firing at the Sona Masjid border in Shivganj, Chapainawabganj. He was involved in smuggling activities near the Zero Line when the incident occurred. Despite attempts to reach BGB officials for further details, no contact was established. Oliul was later rescued by companions and sent for treatment in Rajshahi, although the specific hospital is unknown.
JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) Founder President Advocate Shahanur Islam strongly condemns these egregious acts of violence perpetrated against unarmed Bangladeshi civilians along the India-Bangladesh border and demands immediate attention and action from the international community as these incidents represent a blatant violation of human rights.
JMBF believes that the killing and injuring of Bangladeshi citizens in the Indo-Bangladesh Border is not an isolated incident but rather widespread and increasing day by day, requiring an immediate halt.
JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France calls for swift action to address these egregious violations of human rights by the international community together to ensure that justice is served and steps are taken to prevent further bloodshed in the region.
