Defending human rights, Fighting for social justice, and empowering communities, the human rights organization JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) has officially launched its activities in Paris.
The momentous announcement of the nine-member executive committee of JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) was unveiled through unanimous consensus during an online general meeting held on June 1, 2023 (Thursday).
Distinguished Bangladeshi human rights activist and lawyer, Advocate Shahanur Islam, has been designated as the President, while Advocate Mohammad Alamgir assumes the position of General Secretary.
Leading human rights and development activist from Bangladesh, Sharif Mostafa Helal and Tanni Bithi Sardar, have been unanimously elected as Vice President, alongside the appointment of Sanjida Khanom as Additional General Secretary of the organization.
Furthermore, Mainuddin Khan has been elected as the Treasurer, and Md. Anishar Rahman, Advocate Sakhina Khatun, and Md. Jannatul Ferdous have been selected as members of the executive committee.
JMBF's overarching goal is to contribute to the preservation, advancement, promotion, education, and safeguarding of all human rights, encompassing civil and political rights, for the people of Bangladesh, irrespective of gender, caste, race, or creed.
The organization is dedicated to eradicating all forms of discrimination and impunity against ethnic (Adivasi), religious (Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Ahmadiyya), social (Dalit), and sexual (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex+) minority communities in Bangladesh.
Furthermore, it strives to extend institutional support to victims of torture, extrajudicial killings, forced disappearances, including women and children, as well as their families.
JMBF's commitment also extends to supporting human rights activists, lawyers, journalists, bloggers, and artists at risk due to their professional responsibilities in preventing human rights violations.
Additionally, the organization aims to establish a robust referral system, ensuring accessible support and services for political asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants of Bangladeshi origin residing in France.
The newly established human rights entity will diligently work towards safeguarding, developing, and establishing the rights of oppressed and marginalized groups through legal assistance, shelter provisions, social and mental health support, violence research, human rights monitoring, and advocacy at both national and international levels for minority communities subjected to violence in Bangladesh.
On July 18, 2023, the French authorities granted registration under the Association Act 1901, formalizing the operational status of JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF), and the publication was made in the official journal of France on July 25.
JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) is already actively engaged in monitoring human rights violations, issuing urgent appeals and press statements, and conducting international advocacy campaigns within Bangladesh.
As part of its endeavors, the organization is closely monitoring instances such as the demand for extortion by a local commissioner concerning housing allocated by the prime minister for members of the sexual minority hijra community in Chapai Nawabganj, the tragic attack leading to the demise of religious minority Buddhist monk Dharmajyoti in Cox's Bazar, the reported torture of trainee lawyer Runa Laila in Kashimpur jail, Dhaka, and the recovery of the body of anti-corruption tribunal lawyer Lutful Kabir Nowroz in Khulna. Furthermore, the organization is vigilantly tracking incidents of vandalism targeting temples and religious idols affecting the Hindu minority community in Shariatpur.
On August 10, 2023, Justicemakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) unveiled its annual report, focusing on violence against lawyers in Bangladesh in the year 2022.
